>>>Addressable Ads come to Cablers.....

I am having a hard time trying to understand how much of the info running over the cable network of the future will run through ATHM vs the cable provider alone. It seems with a two-way cable infrastructure in place, the cable company can control A LOT of the content that I might have assumed would run through ATHM's network. Do any of you foresee that the cable companies could actually be in at least as good a position to benefit from the new infrastructure as ATHM? I am wondering whether there is just as much reason for the cable companies to run up as ATHM?

Appreciate any insights. BTW congrats to all long this stock.

Erik

Perhaps you can explain why this "addressable ads" thing appeals to you (this is a serious question).

These are called "yes-man" ads. They tell you what you want to hear, even if it's not entirely true. They know your weakness because you tell them. You become an online sucker. Why would you want that? All you see and hear about new products is what THEY want you to see and hear.

I also can't for the life of me understand why they think I (or anyone for that matter) would let the advertisers/cable companies download and store their ads on my local storage. Who are these people kidding? This is exactly why I favor a set-top computer rather than a Set-Top Box. With the STB model, you don't buy (directly anyway--you still pay for it via subscriber fees) the local storage and you have little control over the configuration. With the STC I can firewall all the ad-server packets if I choose. Obviously the cable cos don't like the STC model.
