jbe(OT)-Right Kosovo was 50/50 Serb/Albanian after WWII. Gradually that tilted to 10/90 now. Also one should be careful saying that there is a religious element to the war. Religiously the Albanians are mixed- about 70% Muslim and 30% Christian, and from my experience religious differences don't mean a lot within the Albanian Community itself... First and foremost they consider themselves Albanians....

Historically the Albanians actually put up a vigorous fight against the Turks circa 1350-1575. They got hit with a Jiyza and were gradually coopted by the Turks after 1575. The Serbs continued to fight in the Balkans and with Austrian support gradually pushed the Turks back in the Balkans after 1650...

Then Austria-Hungary became the local imperialist and the Serbs had to fight them post-1700 once the Turks left. Finally it was Austria-Hungary and Germany in WWI and then the Nazi Germans again in WWII... In other words Serbia has fought invaders constantly since 1389....
