I'm not a snorting bull yet but I am definitely leaning that way. my bullish factors in no particular order. 1) there will be less supply in the next few quarters, in fact there will be a net pay down of debt. 2) the Japanese year end is past. there was some repatriation of funds to clean up balance sheets prior to year end. That pressure will now ease until the Japanese mid year. 3) European growth is fairly anemic. They will likely cut rates in the not to distant future. European long rates will decline as well and will help make US long rates more competitive. 4) I believe the dollar will remain strong and help support factor 3. 5) There are some signs of foreign slow growth feeding through to the US (Gilette, Coca Cola etc). This could produce some moderate slowing in US growth. 6) Inflation remains under control. We've had a little scare in the first quarter as OPEC acted to cut supply. I think this has run its course for the moment. 7) Technically I think 5.75 or thereabouts is very strong support. There is a lot of demand at those levels and it will form a firm foundation. 8) I'm sick and tired of selling bonds. It's unnatural. I want to start buying again.
