If it was up to our military brass, this conflict would no doubt have taken a form similiar to the Gulf War: massive build up, decisive conclusion. If it was up to our military brass, they would have said we have no strategic interest in this quarrel, it isn't worth spending a single American life or dollar of American military supplies on, let them kill each other off for the next 500 years as they have for the last 500, we don't give a rats ass. Keep our boys home. And they would have been right.
