if market caps continue to increase then it isn't a zero sum game. a little bit of forethought on your part and you would have realized this - but that is asking too much.

consider the entire market as a basket of stocks. this basket is at level A. I buy for a short term trade at A. I sell at A+1 some short time later and walk away. another short term trader buys at A+1 and sells at A+2 short while later.

ad infinitum.

all you need is a coninually increasing market cap for this basket.

is that clear enough for you to understand why it isn't a zero sum game of necessity?
