rande here re IEi,,,
Barry has something to say on this below.
ADDRESS BAR SEARCHES IN IE5 The mystery deepens about
configuring the default search engine for address bar
searches in Internet Explorer 5. In the last issue of WWW we
said that you could not configure the address bar search --
even TweakUI (which made the change for IE4) no longer worked.
That comment was based on Peter's copy of IE5, but several
readers say they can change their address bar setting and Barry confirms it. At the bottom of the Customize Search Settings
menu, you may see a button on the left to access Autosearch
Settings. This brings up another menu where you can select
any of the search engines that are on the list and/or disable
autosearch.
Maybe this is a country specific setting, since Peter in
Australia doesn't have the left hand button but the Americans
do. If that's the case we wonder why people in other countries
are not deemed by Microsoft worthy of full access to the features
of IE5.
