RE: your series of questions.

I have no connection to either a DSL provider or a cable access provider. Do you?

I've provided links to each of the available services in the Phoenix area. It is my opinion that almost all of your questions are answered either neutrally or favorably toward cable modems.

Your biggest positive is in the area of guaranteed speed. I've already degraded by two-thirds from what the cable company claims is the lower of "typical" speed band and it's still twice that of the comparably-priced DSL product. I think that's more than fair for my argument.

Web hosting? Cox gives you five meg of space per mail id, up to three mail ids including in the basic charge.

Comparible package? I've already shown you that the comparable package is $45 for cable and $60 for DSL in the Phoenix area.

The Phone Company will have no restrictions on what you can put on a web site? Bull and you know it.

Connect phone and PC to one line? If the PC doesn't need to be hooked to the phone at all then why does this matter?

BTW, why should there be a $400 setup charge for a 256kbps line and ISP? Isn't this Phone Company thinking, that "if you want it you will pay"?

I noticed you worked on the Boeing 747-400 too. I was working on this software project as an undergrad - the flight simulation controls; take off and landing. One time, someone asked me on a plane what I do for a living (during takeoff too.)

I worked on the 747-400 IO and OS for the Flight Management System (FMS) starting in 1987, and have since worked on several other flight computers for different commercial aircraft.
