Gary, let me add my name to the long list who owe you for your excellent research and steadfast faith in the company. I'm one who held from 59 to 22 1/2 and back.

I thank you and my pension plan thanks you!

Hi, Gary(Korn). It's good to know that people remember you. I have been in ASCEND since January 1997. Never sold a single share. It has been a great experience, never a dull moment. It was hell of a ride. You were very informative and encouraging when there was gloom and doom. It is too bad you were given a bad advice by your accountant and sold out too early. Wish you luck with Oracle.

Oracle sounds similar to ASND in the story. Street suddenly lost love with Larry Ellison just as they did with Mory. People sold ASND like there was no tomorrow. All they did was miss one fricking Quarter in Sept.97. They were all over ASCEND.

Oracle is another leader which is probably receiving unfair treatment. I am definitely looking to buy this year.

Talk about BEATEN bunch. How about the ERP and Supply chain management cos. like PSFT, SAP, ITWO.

How about NETWORK associates. It sounds like a similar story. They are leaders in their fields. Do you think ERP and Network security vendors will have a comeback in 2000.

Iam looking for next ASCEND (Unfairly beaten stocks which are certain to recover).

Regards,
BR

Hello Gary. As a long-term lurker on this thread, I have appreciated your posts over the last two years. Referencing Oracle, it may be a good buy at these levels, but I don't believe that it has the upside potential of a 1997 Asnd:

Margins. Database margins have eroded and will probably continue to do so. MSFT's SQL Server continues to get better and will continue to be cheaper. This is a major force negatively impacting Oracle.

DB Market. Unlike the telecom market where carriers and corporations may be re-building their infrastructure several times over the next decade (to the benefit of asnd, csco, etc.), the relational db market is relatively stable. A couple of years ago, we thought that object-oriented database technology would generate a wave of systems re-engineering to the benefit of Oracle and others. To date, it just hasn't happened; doesn't look like it ever will.

ERP Market. The melt-down of the ERP market is for real. Oracle has never done well in selling apps and it will only get tougher for these guys. Oracle makes a lot of noise about its front-office strategy, but has yet to deliver.

If you want a pure database play, take a look at Informix. Thanks again for your posts.
