Have to agree with you on the Iridium commercials. You'll never get people to sign up on the enticing proposition that they can make calls from the north pole. The rural road breakdown scenario would be much more effective and would be an easy add-on sale given your suggested pricing.

The real question is can GSTRF really do this for something in the $5/month range? For emergency use folks don't care much about per-minute charges. If I'm really stranded in the middle of nowhere what do I care if the call costs $20? Ideally the phone would incorporate a GPS receiver and be able to transmit the coordinates along with the call so that AAA (or whoever) can find me on that rural road.

For more normal use, the premium has to be reasonable. Nobody wants to be surprised with a huge bill at the end of the month. Obviously this is heavily dependent on the total capacity of the system. Do we know how many simultaneous calls the IRID and GSTRF systems can handle?
