Way back when I did this before ....
and this is from a fading memory .... ggg

Configured the external box with hd as drive "e" as a slave ... remember this was in the days before CDROM....
took the internal IDE cable and hard wired it to a frame mounted male D pin which was accessed externally via a spare porthole....
took the cable from the hd in the external box and hard wired it to a cable with a female D pin on the end....
Then I would plug these together when I wanted to use the movable drive....
when it was not in use, the boot would just tell me it wasn't there and carry on with the striking of "any key"

As I'm planning a little fishing excursion to celebrate my 58th b/d this week end and I'm still in the process of installing the network system in the downstairs and upstairs offices .....
it will probably be next week or even the week after before I get around to doing this little job, but I'll let you know what happens.

Anyone else have anything to add .... jump right in .... I only know enough to get in trouble most of the time ...... ggggg
