... Amid its sprawl of assets, there are some gems like Pacific
Internet Ltd., an Internet service provider which is expanding
aggressively in Asia, and Jurong Shipyard Ltd., a profitable
ship repairer.

Pacific Internet Ltd. sold shares on the Nasdaq on February
8 and has since tripled. Jurong Shipyard gained 8.0 percent in
the past two months.

Many investors, though, simply chose a more direct route.

''I'd rather invest in PacNet and take the risk on that,
than on SembCorp,'' said Dennis See, a fund manger at Pointworth
Management Pte. Singapore, which manages S$70 million ($41
million).
