Zbyslaw --

This is not the first time Cisco's followed NN into a sector. As for the circuit-emulation capabilities, I'm told NN's gigabit switches also have this ability. And like you said, it's not easy to accomplish.

Alan's also right on target by emphasizing "real world networks." That concept has been reiterated here at the VC conference many times. As recently as a year ago, "visionaries" were preaching an all-IP network. Now, faced with real demands in a carrier world set up for carrier-grade reliability, the story includes ATM in a major way. The same sense of reality has set in with SONET. It's not the same --- referred to as SONET II --- but there's no talk of eliminating it any time soon. The real world has to accept what is as well as what might be.

I have no doubt that once NN gets their DVC4000 story out on a wider basis, the stock will appreciate even more than it already has. I know they're talking to analysts, but it's possible some are waiting for the next quarter before getting behind them publicly.

Roger McNamee, founder of Integral Capital Partners, said those who invested in networking were in the right place at the right time. Unlike the built-on-air Internet "dot coms," data networkers "sell the products that allow their customers to make money." No news to those who follow NN, but good to hear, just the same.

Now, I'm off. . .

"Cisco said the moves amount to a "bridging transition, helping service
providers transition to the Internet-based world. This is a more efficient
way of taking advantage of new technology."

Who was barking on the wrong tree, Terry or J.Chambers hyping pure IP as the only way to go.
Now CSCO is back to the drawing board, to the real world network.

"The Cisco acquisitions will allow service providers to integrate
circuit-based services onto an ATM network, the company said. Cisco
explained that it will be able to assist service providers' changeover voice
and data traffic to cell and packet networks while they maintain their
traditional phone business using the existing infrastructure, the company
said. See press release."
