Joan, You make a good point. I use my credit cards for all my purchases and haven't written a check at a store for 10 years. In fact, the worst thing that can happen is to get behind somebody at a store and then watch them pull out their checkbooks. Unless, it is getting behind them when they can't make the checkout ATM work. <g>

Anyway, I use the credit cards because I get a cash kickback. It means nothing on each purchase, but over the course of the year, I get a rebate of several hundred dollars. Which, of course, goes to improve the breed at the track. <g> However, we should also note that not everybody pays off their credit cards every month and they do charge interest. So, methinks that many of the credit cards we see in use are really debit cards.

The point I would make is that credit cards are only one small part of the picture. All other forms of debt is also soaring. So, our snapshot on credit cards alone may be a bit fuzzy, but it sure isn't on the other forms of debt.
