Kim, this an extremely important application in laparoscopic and other "less invasive" procedures. Schoolman has a "suit" of patents relating to stereoscopic viewing of both fluoroscopic and laparoscopic (and actually many other modalities) systems in variety of settings. In most cases, however, Scoolman's claim uses the term "a pair of video displays", and it would be an interesting question whether this terms covers displays that project images directly on the two retinas (a pair of VRD) or not.
