Fewer trades. Yes - I try and configure for few trades. My best SP models traded about 14 times since Nov 20, 98. Bond models less than 1/2 that. I use a averaged output as the predicted to try and slow down the quick trades and whip-saws.

Buying AOL and tucking it away is likely one of the best moves you did. Perhaps a simply trend following system is enough for those stocks, buy at support etc. I don't plan to short, just time long entries.
