Last time I looked, there was no problem with a purchasing manager buying whatever brand of PC with whatever make of chip in it desired (even Dell offers "Business Celerons" - I know cause I just bought one). The kindest thing I can say to you is that I have never seen defensiveness and denial so vigourously defended. AMD embarked on a business plan that was predicated on AMD's perfect execution, a concept that now brings giggles to wall street.

I repeat,in my view a foolish (kindest word I can think of) board kept a foolish (kindest word I can think of) manager to lead a troubled (kindest word I can think of) company on a dangerous (kindest word I can think of) business plan, knowing that the company has a history of disappointing on the manufacturing side. Just a touch overly optimistic. The long odds players loved it, but reality is a bitch. The best things pro-AMD folks have been able to say today is that the K7 is the equal of the PIII (not what they were saying back in December) and the stock is so beaten down that it hasn't fallen much (but let's wait for that $1.50 a share loss they'll anounce in a few days).

I wonder if Kurlak is still long AMD.

AMD does the same thing.

They just JACK UP the supply voltage on a 350 MHz $67 Kmart 62 and voila - it's a 450 MHz $139 Kmart 62.

Isn't this ALSO ILLEGAL ?

Scumbria, this practice is common in almost every industry. Sticking to the computer industry, IBM sold its line of 360's and the only difference between some of the models was a switch that disabled PROM which slowed the machine down. Same for printers, disk drives. What about name brand consumer goods versus private store brand.

YOU may describe it as illegal, but you would be wrong. Your credibility is showing.
