<<What makes Linux special? It is free with free source
code.>>

ALSO - what makes it special is that it runs on x86 computers, which are typically DOS/Windows only.

Sun O/S, HPUX, AIX, etc are typically run only on workstations and mini's.

Of course, that is not as much of an issue now as it had been since today typically DOS/Windows Pentium systems are virtually the equivalent to workstations and mini's.

KT

Crimson,
I also think you're wrong on Linux. What makes Linux potentially very big is that it's OS particularly for servers is no worse than Windows NT, but has a huge price advantage. As a result its market share for servers has gone from 6.8%(1997) to 17.2% last year, while the NT market share actually declined. According to an article in the latest Wired, a 25 person LAN with MS products costs $21.4K vs. $5.5K !!! for Linux. Linux is going to be huge and a great catch for NAVR.
