InnovaCom and Sonic Foundry Forge Strategic Alliance; Company Further Enhances $29K DVDimpact With Dolby Digital

SANTA CLARA, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--April 8, 1999--InnovaCom Inc. (OTC BB:MPEG), a manufacturer of video compression based transmission and DVD Production Systems, Thursday announced that it has forged an OEM agreement with Sonic Foundry (AMEX:SFO), a leading developer of digital media software.

The OEM agreement allows InnovaCom to incorporate Sonic Foundry's Soft Encode 2-Channel Dolby (AC-3) and its Sound Forge XP 4.5 software packages into its DVDimpact(TM) product line. The DVDimpact, InnovaCom's flagship publishing system is an all-in-one Windows NT(TM) solution incorporating a full suite of publishing tools, required by today's DVD authors.

The Soft Encode 2-Channel Dolby encoder is used to convert audio content for DVD delivery. It secures the InnovaCom generated PCM audio at 1.5 Mb/s and compresses it to approximately 0.4 Mb/s in Dolby Digital Stereo format. In addition, the Sound Forge XP 4.5 software program provides powerful audio processing tools and effects for professional sound editing.

"Sonic Foundry has a strong reputation in the audio software industry and we are pleased to complement our DVDimpact with their digital multimedia tools," said Frank Alioto, president and CEO of InnovaCom. "Utilizing the product in unison with our system affords us with a premier utility for encoding AC-3 material and provides a quality editing tool for MPEG-2 based content."

Customers purchasing the DVDimpact may also add Sonic Foundry's Sound Forge 4.5 Professional Sound editing software system and the Noise Reduction Plug-in, which are optional packages. The Sound Forge 4.5 Professional Sound Editing software system, including tools and effects, also provides capabilities that display the resulting data in two graphical formats.

Another software option from Sonic Foundry, the Noise Reduction Plug-in, virtually eliminates constant level background noise from the audio program.

"As the DVD market grows, we are excited to work with InnovaCom and the DVDimpact Pre-Mastering Suite," said Roy Elkins, vice president of sales and marketing at Sonic Foundry. "Soft Encode provides a familiar software environment for DVD producers who need to encode audio assets into the Dolby Digital format."

Sonic Foundry Inc. develops and markets award-winning digital media software for the Windows platform. Sonic Foundry's software products are used worldwide for music production. Audio/Video post-production, Web applications, streaming applications and broadcast production.
