The National Post reports in its Thursday, April 8, edition that Kevin Binnie, Pacific
International Securities' technology hardware and aerospace analyst is keen on
Kasten Chase Applied Research. The National Post's Sonita Horvitch writes in her
Buy & Sell column that Kasten Chase operates in the data-networking segment of
the industry. Mr. Binnie says Kasten Chase has turned itself around since it
suffered a blow when a major customer, Dow Jones Markets, was sold in early
1998. Mr. Binnie says Kasten Chase's fourth quarter 1998 revenue was "back on
track." The company continues to invest in research and development, which had a
"negative effect on 1998 earnings." He sees a "significant upside" for the company
in two of its new products, VersaPath, which allows organizations to make their
mainframe and minicomputers Web accessible, and Secure Remote Access, which
allows government agencies to access classified data using sophisticated encryption
techniques. Mr. Binnie expects Kasten Chase to produce positive earnings by this
third quarter and strong earnings for 2000.
