Well... I've spent the last hour hunting and hunting and came up with the following... it was posted today in the tech news section of the Globe & Mail... our primary business daily up here.. by Mark Evans. Interesting reading.. you can read the whole article at www.globetechnology.com/gam/News/19990408/TWLINK.html and judge for yourselves.

The hope that Bid.Com's stock and business will stay vibrant is articulated by Colin Webster, who co-founded Toronto-based Edeal last year. "I'm worried it could be the next Bre-X [Minerals Ltd.]. If it tanks, it could make Canada look bad."

It's a heavy load carrying the hopes of an entire industry, but Bid.Com has managed to make progress -- so far.

With a listing on the high-tech friendly Nasdaq Stock Market slated for later this month and growing interest from U.S. investors, Bid.Com is starting to exhibit many of the characteristics of a typical Internet stock: modest but growing sales, non-existent profit and a market capitalization that seems to expand daily.

The jury is still out on Bid.Com. The Mississauga-based firm had sales of just $20-million last year, even though it attacked the market with a huge promotional budget.

A dark cloud on the horizon may be Bid.Com's relationship with America Online Inc., which recently entered into an alliance with Ebay. AOL has also cut its equity stake in Bid.Com to about 1 per cent from 4.9 per cent.
