Microsoft MSN Internet Access to Be Promoted on Broadcast.com

Redmond, Washington, April 8 (Bloomberg) -- Microsoft Corp.
said MSN Internet Access will become a preferred Internet service
provider on Broadcast.com under a joint marketing agreement
between the No. 1 software maker and the Web broadcaster.
Broadcast.com, the top distributor of audio and video
programs over the Web, is being acquired by Yahoo! Inc., the
No. 1 Internet directory, for $5.92 billion in stock. Under the
agreement, MSN Internet Access will promote its ability to handle
Broadcast.com programming using so-called multicast technology,
which provides more reliable and efficient transmission of audio
and video over the Internet than conventional technology.

The marketing agreement follows Microsoft statements that it
would increase promotional spending on MSN Internet Access, the
access side of the MSN network of Web sites. Analysts have
speculated that Redmond, Washington-based Microsoft might sell
MSN Internet Access if the company decided it no longer wants to
be in the relatively low-margin business of providing Internet
access.

An MSN Internet Access button will appear throughout the
broadcast.com Web site to promote the service, and custom
promotions will appear in advertisements and program channels.

Broadcast.com, which is based in Dallas, broadcasts
entertainment and corporate events over the Internet. Its shares
rose 2 to 151 1/4 in midafternoon trading.

Microsoft rose 3/4 to 94 1/16.
