It would be PRUDENT for them to make this as robust as their existing software, since it will carry their name on it.

Sun's ability to make correct software is not in question. It is the 20,000,00 other unknown programmers out there. One of the big mistakes of the original DOS/x86 architecture was that the programmer was given too much direct ability to screw up the CPU hardware. Unbarriered x86 self-modifying code was a good example of how a programmer could seriously confuse a microprocessor.

IA-64 appears to have some of the same types of potential trouble spots.
