Doug, for what it's worth, I had very good luck with two Matthews asian funds (MAPTX and MAKOX) in the last quarter of 1998 - before I made to switch to oil stocks. John Templeton and a retired partner of Hambrecht & Quist (don't remember which) bought big positions in this fund when Asia was at bottom - smart people. I still believe that individual oil patch stocks still have much more potential than any mutual fund.
