Peter,OT <<I signed up in Mar, 1997. I was never asked to pay and I remember it was a free sign up. I'm not aware since when you need to pay to sign up.>> I signed up in December 97 and by then the fee was $ 50.00 for a lifetime membership. It went up again when the original founders sold out. The fee basis started in Fall 97 I believe. Free lifetimers were extended legacy privileges in the terms of the sale I suspect. Best, Stitch
