Vinny here is another clue---->Compal (Taiwan) ships more to DELL.

Compal Electronics Sees '99 Profit Rising to Record NT$5.6 Bln

Taipei, April 9 (Bloomberg) -- Compal Electronics Inc. said it expects pretax profit this year to jump to a record as it supplies more products to Dell Computer Corp. and NEC Home Electronics Ltd.

Compal expects pretax profits of NT$5.6 billion ($169.7 million), the highest since it was established in 1987, said Chairman Hsu Sheng-hsiung. Last year, Compal earned NT$5.1 billion.

The news helped boost Compal stock to a two-and-a-half- month high of NT$98. Some 38.2 million shares were traded, the most in almost three months. ''Our prospect looks pretty solid this year,'' Hsu said. ''Demand is getting stronger from our customers.''

Compal and many Taiwanese companies export personal computers, semiconductor chips and computer parts to the U.S., making the island the fourth-largest manufacturer of such products after the U.S., Japan and Korea.

For 1999, the Taipei-based company plans to ship as many as 130,000 laptop PCs, compared with 70,000 a year ago, to Dell and Hewlett-Packard Co.
