Aware is a very R&D based company...that is what they do best, not to mention the profit margin on technology is much higher than on manufacturing based companies(in most cases). Aware has many customers/partners ADI, Lucent, Siemens, ST Microelectronics, 3Com, Northern Telecom etc. All of them play a significant role in helping Aware get the exposure it needs and has earned through lots of R&D. There are some in the industry that would say that they have a 2 to 3 year head start on continuing innovation over their competitors. As for the standard, their G.lite technology is going to be ratified as the international standard in early June. Here are some upcoming important dates:aware.com Actually that would be three...Compaq, Dell, and just recently Gateway are shipping DSL modems in their PCs based on Aware technology. I'm not sure about the other two yet, but Compaq uses a Lucent based chipset and is a dual mode 56K and DSL modem. Aware based technology has broken into the Asia market as well....Singapore springs to mind first. Their tie in to Intel would be that Intel, Microsoft, Compaq, and a couple other big players are part of the DSL Consortium for rapid DSL deployment, hence they support Aware based technology in a direct and indirect way. The part of the Bell Atlantic deal that will benefit Aware is the $600 Million part that Northern Telecom acquired (they use Aware technology). They are actually paid by the hardware/silicone makers that make the products, so the more contracts suppliers get the more revenue flows to Aware by way of hardware based on their technology. The time frame varies with the suppliers and the customers. Alcatel seems to be acquiring some contracts in the west and part of the Bell Atlantic deal, but Aware has many strong supporters/partners...Alcatel has few. Dtech
