ScanSoft Extends ESD Partnership With Digital River to Provide Download Capabilities for Entire Product Line

MINNEAPOLIS--(BUSINESS WIRE)--April 9, 1999--Digital River (Nasdaq: DRIV - news), the world leader in electronic software delivery (ESD), today announced it has extended its relationship with ScanSoft Inc., (Nasdaq: SSFT - news), to include the sale and delivery of all of ScanSoft's products through the Internet. ScanSoft, Inc., formerly a subsidiary of Xerox Corporation, is a leading provider of digital imaging and OCR software for retail, OEM and corporate markets.

Due to the positive customer response to ScanSoft's first downloadable product, TextBridge Pro 98, which Digital River began distributing in July 1998, ScanSoft is extending its ESD offering to include their Pagis(TM) Pro (PC only), PaperPort(TM), and Visual Explorer(TM) product lines in both PC and Mac, as well as a trial version of TextBridge Pro(TM) 9.0, scheduled for release on April 12.

''Since we first began working with Digital River, our foray into e-commerce has been very positive,'' said Steve Ricketts, vice president of marketing for ScanSoft, Inc. ''The added exposure that we gain through Digital River's retail channel is yet another benefit of this partnership.''

''Digital River makes it easy for both the customer to download the software they need and for a partner like ScanSoft to get their e-commerce site up and running with ESD capabilities,'' said Joel Ronning, CEO of Digital River.
