There's an air of unfairness and injustice about the word "bigot" that I don't think you mean to imply. Too negative. "Zealot" on the other hand means extreme positive commitment to a cause -- at worst an over exmphasis on the object, but no suggestion of unfairness or disdain for the rival cause. A zealot supporting a sprinter would be pleased with the great performance of a rival who pushed the chosen sprinter to his best times, win or lose. A bigot supporting a white sprinter might seek to have his African-American rival excluded from the race.
