I can understand horror and trying to escape horror. But every country is a lifeboat- and you know what happens when lifeboats get swamped. My empathy is boundless, my wallet is not.

<<My father worked for UNRRA after the war, and was in charge of repatriating ex-prisoners of war and forced labor camp inmates back to the Soviet Union. Seeing their resistance, he assumed at first that they were all Nazi collaborators. It took a while for him to grasp the true state of affairs .....He remembered one case in particular, when Cossacks, men and women, knowing what awaited them back "home", threw themselves under the tanks that had been sent in to round them up. It haunted him for years. >>

We have become a generation in a country that except for Vietnam and Korea veterans, have no real understanding of terror or oppression. I heard a jet fly over this am and thought how lucky I was not to want to hide under the bed.
