Does anybody know if ETRADE charges a fee for sending out duplicate tax forms? I requested a 1099 form for 1997 by e-mail and received a response the second day saying the tax form for 1998 will be mailed to me in 5-10 days. They did not mention there will be a $5 charge for this service. I had to e-mail them again saying I need the tax form for 1997. However, I got no response. I requested again through the service center for the 1997 tax form. This time I got a message back saying that the form will be mailed to me and there will be $5 charge. As of today (three weeks later) I still have NOT received the tax form yet. So I called the customer service and asked whether they can fax it to me. The service rep said no and I should receive it anytime now. I called again and spoke with another service rep. She said she can fax it to me and there will be NO charge. After a while I still have not received the fax so I called back and spoke with yet another service rep. He said he can fax the form to me, but there will be a $35 charge.
Why do these people in ETRADE offer different answers/policies? I don't mind paying but the policy should be consistent. Does anybody else have similar experiences? Would appreciate comments from fellow E-traders.
