I don't see those two statements as inconsistent.

In a rational investment climate (and my wife tells me everyday that with the internuts its psychology and the irrational element driving this market) you make a distinction between companies within sectors. You don't condemn entire sectors because of poor performance by one company within it. You buy the company with the better performance.

The only time you chuck a sector is if there are larger factors such as an imminent economic slowdown and you perceive the performance of one company as symptomatic of the sector.

Clearly that is not the case.
