BGR. You have GOT to be kidding. 9% sequential growth in what is widely known as the weakest quarter in all of techdom and you are fearful? To me, that is unbelievably strong, given what has been said about the PIII transition blip and seasonal slowness in the industry overall. As for ASP's, what are you talking about? Mid-single digits? Do you mean, say, a 5% drop in ASP sequentially? Again, I think that would be pretty good given historical rates. I think you'll see Compaq's ASP drop over 10% based on what they are implying with this press release. Commercial PC's is the specific area they cited (as opposed to consumer PCs, I assume), which is their best margin and highest ASP segment next to servers, I believe. If it weren't for Pfeiffer's huge ego and stubbornness, this press release might have well said "Dell is kicking our ass and we don't know what to do know other that declare a kitchen-sink quarter and try something else next quarter." I have to admit, I was worried about the implications of this announcement for DELL until I heard the comments from Kumar (of all people) that this is company-specific and that INTC will show next week that the industry as a whole is just fine. I have not been a big fan of Kumar in the past, but I have to say that it showed a lot of integrity and guts to come out this quickly and NOT pile on with a bunch of doom and gloom like the rest of the sheep. Look at what's happening. AMD warns. Company-specific. Compaq warns. Company-specific. Compaq uses AMD chips. DELL does not. DELL says we're doing just fine. INTC says we're doing just fine (PIII sales ahead of expectations). There is nothing to be fearful of, IMO. Rich
