The Illinois record came from a power plant lake and had to be a hybrid as it was caught before Illinois had any pure stripers. The lake was heated all year and was full of shad. Also it was stocked several years before fishing was allowed.

The lake where I fish has a lot of pressure and they usually get caught at around 18". Illinois is now starting to stock some pure stripers. As a rule they're a little warier and may grow up a bit.

Sorry, the Illinois record for hybrid stripers is 20.3. I had it mixed up with a pure striper that was caught last year. Sill would be fun to catch one that size.
