(1)I am always amazed how price action foretells coming
bad news.
(2)Sure is nice to have no position in DELL.
(3) YES ! A good company like DELL at a cheaper price.
(4) Did your fundamentals see this coming ?
(5) By the way, if you think the news on CPQ will have no
effect on DELL.....Well I have a bridge you can buy (g)

ctc, your comments re: dell are well taken. i never debated that dell couldn't be successful in stressed environment. all i said is it would be more difficult.

the bottom line is a supply / demand imbalance. too much supply is leading to lower prices just to sell units.

the business environment is key - especially for dell. retail has collapsed. units were up 1% in february and revs were down over 15%.

i have not seen the data to support either a good or a bad business market yet.

the tough factors for pcs going forward are...

1. who is gonna pay 20% more for 3% more performance when current performance is darn good - is that why dell pronounced the pii dead in favor of the celeron?

2. inflated stock prices demand LARGE growth increases which leads to eyes bigger than the stomach syndrome. this is a catalyst for excessive supply.

if the market turns sour then dell will get smashed. when dram turned - NOBODY made profits. when dds turned, nobody made profits. not even the best.

so, i guess that is the question... stay tuned as we will all find out. however, the trend is not good. it could change later, but it isn't good now...
