As for Merced, says Crume, "It is not the major industry event that we will look back on and say, 'That was the beginning of the new world.'"

What do you expect an Intel competitor to say? "Darn! We don't have a chance. We might as well stop production, license the Merced design, and become a second source."

A questionnaire for you:

Which of the following chips were major advancements in the microprocessor field (mark all that apply):

B) 8086/8088
C) 68000
D) 80286
E) 80386
F) 80486
G) Pentium
H) K-5
I) Pentium II
J) K-6
K) K-6-2
L) Pentium III
M) K-VI-3
N) K-VII
