Thanks for the quick responses so far. As far as PowerBooks go Papaya, that's a great observation. I don't pay nearly as much attention to the laptops as I do the pro and consumer desktops. Partially because they only account for about 100,000 units a quarter and sales have been flat. The current prices are steals--14" screens at lower prices than any PC laptops with same, from what I've read. Apple has a new generation of laptops ready to go but has been holding off to clear the current batch. The new Apple mantra appears to be "nooooo inventory."

Some of us SI'ers did something I thought was interesting in January. We got together for an investors meeting with two analysts who cover Apple and Eric Yang (appleinvestors.com) at MacWorld. Had a very detailed discussion. And the thought there was that despite cost cutting, Apple's margins remain excellent. For instance, dropping the iMac $100 and bumping up the specs (and colors) was probably completely covered by the falling costs of components. And I "know" the demand is there because I've done a lot of channel checks and such.

So I'm ... um ... apprehensively confident about Apple's report on Wednesday.
