I just took another look at the recent press release discussing management changes: biz.yahoo.com As always, I'll feel free to share my speculations with all of you. I may not be correct, but it's fun anyway. I suggest that THQ created the position of VP of licensing in order to focus more specifically on license acquisitions. THQ recruited a new marketing VP, who is going to handle everything the marketing VP used to handle, with the exception of licensing activities. Forgive the obvious statement, but this seems to send a strong message that THQ is in the process of signing some big licenses. If Ms. Gioia remained in the position of marketing VP, while trying to secure more licenses, her attentions would be diverted from other important marketing functions. Now that the new marketing VP will handle the real marketing (and branding!) activities (because license acquisition isn't really a marketing responsibility), Gioia will be able to devote her full time to licenses. The fact that THQ created a new position specifically for licensing tells me that licensing will become an even greater priority in the future. Hopefully, THQ will now have a greater ability to nail down those 2 blockbuster licenses that I've been calling for. And hopefully, Lapin will continue to make smart acquisitions (such as a blockbuster deal with a developer--like Rage). Shortly after he was promoted to vice chairman (responsible for strategic planning and M & A), Rushware was acquired. Let's keep 'em coming. And finally, Rubinelli (VP of product development) joined THQ in November and is responsible for external product development. He came from Midway, where he was VP of product acquisition. Shortly after he joined THQ, we acquired the Sinistar license from Midway. Hmmm...The timing of these promotions is not entirely random. I've noticed that shortly after companies establish new positions for executives, things start to happen. Let's hope this continues to hold true for THQ. Todd
