Of course dividends are important ultimately, but they are a negative in growth companies because they signal decreasing opportunities for growth.

Yes, they are important. And they will be even more important when the market goes down or moves sideways for a while.

As long as there is capital appreciation and the "greater fool" phenomenon keeps pushing stock prices to even higher levels, people can afford to overlook dividends. There is nothing surprising about that. It has happened in the past. It is happening now. It will happen again in the future as well.

Of course, to Chuzz's credit, I must point out that he does say that dividends are important ultimately.
