I see the whole PC sector becoming what the television sector became many years ago. . .just another appliance maker. Compaq's poor performance will get a big knee-jerk reaction from Wall Street, since that is how the big boys can stick it to the hundreds of thousands of shareholders in Compaq best. But Compaq is hardly down for the count. Maytag, Whirlpool, Magnavox, RCA, Dell, Westinghouse, Sylvania, Gateway. . . they all make appliances for the home that work well and are priced right. Now, to be more specific. . .Unlike Dell, Gateway and Apple, IBM has it's hands in plenty of other ventures. . .including business to business networking, software solutions, business hardware, etc. and the R and D of tiny hard drives for wearables [which everyone will use like it or not someday] and other areas that keep them vital in the high-tech world as a leader. Compaq has made enormous strides to follow their leader's example and has been pioneering some new roads for themselves, especially in the mobile computing fields. . .go to Yahoo and browse the titles of their news this past year and see what I mean. Compaq still has to spin off Alta-Vista, which could still send its stock price skyward temporarily. They own Digital Corp, which is still a world leader. And Hewlett-Packard likewise is quite diversified. They are the clear leader in printers, but also are software developers for business and have many products other than the consumer ones we see in retail stores. . .visit website for better picture on them. Sony, well. . .Sony is a Sony. Dell, Gateway, E-Machines and Apple make computers and, uh. . .uh. . .??? Rande Is
