definition of spamming?????i know it is a little hard to draw boundries... It's often tough to know exactly what the word "spam" means in the internet context. There are a few different definitions out there, and the internet is the only place it means something other than a canned meat product. Here's the definition I use for purposes of Silicon Investor: The posting or inclusion of the same or essentially the same message multiple times in multiple threads. What's allowable is once in the thread specific to that stock and once in a general-topic thread. The wording doesn't have to be identical for a message to be considered spam. If the essence of the message is the same, it's spam. For example, "I like [thread's stock here] but am selling a little of it to buy [spam stock here]." but,it is a little hard to take when a paid promoter who we know gets paid to tout a stock,in a course of 20 minutes starts 3 new threads in 3 different classifications Of course, we can never determine whether or not someone is really a paid promoter or take action regarding disclosure (that's the SEC's arena, not ours) but if someone starts 3 new threads in 3 different categories, that's spam. PM me the details and I'll remove 2 of the threads. i know by posting this i am setting myself up for the same scrutiny I'm glad you mentioned that. Many people assume that either we'll automatically suspend someone because they say we should, or that we'll only look at one person's postings but nobody else's. Not true. We look at the post and the posts around it and sometimes the person who sent the complaint becomes the surprised cellmate of the person they complained about. yes,i could probably have sent this via a p.m That's the avenue I prefer, but a definition of "spam" has been needed for a while. Hope I didn't make those waters any murkier with my definition, which may be revised in the future. For reporting spam, my favorite way is for people to post about it in Subject 25505 I have that thread bookmarked, and post there occasionally. It's a good thread for trying to figure out what's spam and what isn't. Regards, SI Admin (Bob)
