Stat of the Day

In both 1965 and 1966 the Dow Jones almost got to 1000, only to be turned away. When it finally was able to close definitively in quadruple digits in November 1972, the joy was brief. The index peaked less than two months later at 1052, and over the next two years investors experienced a 45% decline, the worst since the 1930s.
