the impact of the announcement that RC was being removed on CPQs stock then later, how the share price reacted when EP was hired
Rosen announced both things at the same time. EP had been head of european operations and was brought over in a COO role. Over a period of a month or so he was gradually moved into a kind of "joint CEO" position. So there was a relatively smooth transition when Rod left.

The share price had already dropped by about 50% when Rod was fired. It did not do much after the firing - it dropped a little initially but really stayed almost flat for about 3 months. Then it took another dip down as end of year 1991 results were announced (they were pretty grim). But EP had already made radical changes in the product line and positioning (mostly driven by Ben Rosen according to those who were there at the time). Performance turned around almost immediately and the share price almost tripled over the next 18 months.
