As long as rumor are clearly defined as Unconfirmed or they give a source, I have not problem with them. The posts I don't care for are the ones which just make unsubstantiated claims like "Takeover announcement by Monday!". They are a waste of time and so are the pissing matches which inhabit this thread.

Just an opinion.

Would len have been more responsible and caring to have NOT posted what he heard?

Another vote for "NO". He clearly stated it was an unsubstantiated rumor, even telling us (more or less) where he heard the rumor. If an adult is going to act on a rumor without doing more DD (as I'm sure we've all done) then there isn't anyone to blame. If someone read the post, jumped up and shouted across the cubicle walls "FORE rejected an offer!!!" and their coworkers dumped FORE, then maybe that person bears some responsibility for their coworkers naivite - but the original post couldn't have been more clear about the essential nature of the rumor.

EDIT: I'm one who sold FORE on Friday, but not because of the rumor: I dumped because I've been in since $17ish, and at the time of purchase I would have been ecstatic with $24. It hit that on Friday, and I jumped out. Holding was no longer in my comfort-zone.

Should anyone who has read the "len-lashings" now be reluctant to post what he/she hears?

Yes! At any given moment the only information I need to know is:

Are FORE's products better than Cisco's?
At these prices am I a fool not to be accumulating shares?
Isn't it likely that an acquisition will be announced next week?
Are no-clue analysts, and "out-of-lunch" MMs really forcing a $50 stock to trade in the teens?

I'm hope the poster who can provide me with these answers will continue to post. But Len, offering his honest opinion without acting like God's gift to SI, in a clear and concise fashion, let's string him up!!!

jas.
