I just go back to the European experience. Scots and English slaughtered each other for years, then they merged and now they tell jokes about their differences. French and English hated each other for hundreds of year, French and Germans -- etc. I always ask the Europeans in my classes about national hatreds and the chances of wars among EU members. They all believe that war is unthinkable. With those attitudes, war will not occur. They won't let it. You won't bomb a country where your wealth is invested on the ground, where your brother works, and where your greatgrandparents emigrated from. Race, religion, and nationality have little to do with it. Building economic interdependence creates the fundamental conditions for lasting peace.
