mohan....all computers created equal?...

why do many look at "computers" and their "makers" as a commodity...
with no differentiation to "specific brand"...

the price of a "computer" is not like wheat, corn. oil, gold, etc..and the misfortunes of "one" or "many" in the market is not necessarily translated to "all"....

the comparison to the auto industry is valid...gm sales poor...daimler chrysler fine.....a high demand vehicle sold for sticker plus...a model with over a hundred days or more inventory discounted and rebated...

the key to any market and its pricing pressure is demand v inventory........and if your model is bto....than there is no "real" market pressure to drop pricing to at or below cost...

cpq,hwp,ibm,nec/packard bell,acer....all losing due to competition and shrinking price...common denominator...inventory model sold through not so loyal sales channels....buyer wins..seller loses...seller exits market....dell eats more pie...
