Art, I am lurker here and don't contribute much. But my guess is that your comment:

The message did NOT deny the rumor that set the shares going down earlier this week

is way off the mark. In a private email to you, they can't admit or deny anything. I wouldn't put much credence in anything other than the fact that earnings will be released on the 15th.

Jay

Art,

This reply is from my NEC MobilePro 770 using MindSpring as an ISP and Windows CE Internet Explorer.

Art,

Sorry, my earlier post was cut off during the 15 minute editing window.

I agree with Jay. Don't you think it would be arduous for SNDK to reply to every negative Yahoo! post, every NY Times article, every analyst downgrade,... I mean, they would consume each and every work day creating press releases. Cindy and Eli mentioned that they are not in the business of neutralizing every competitor's claim with a countervailing opinion. This was particularly true when IBM released the microdrive last year (notice no capital "m" per IBM's request).

Also, they are in that tight-lipped period (quiet period) and we are just a few days away from earnings. If they had called on the phone (and you agreed not to record the call) you may have had some generic words of relief...

"Are best estimates are that we are on target."

or

"We stand by our earlier statements (and are not required to update them anyway)."

While you were expecting...

"Sir, we had our earnings warning clearly posted in the company cafeteria for the last 2 weeks. Didn't you bother looking?"

or

"Our new company policy is to send earnings warnings to select institutional investors, preferred individual investors, and some dude name Äussdåuer on the SI thread."

This is not to say that I am not suspicious of the share price behavior of late. But at this point it is too late to do anything but wait for April 15th and hope for the best.
