You highlight the flaw in your reasoning, which is that the balance between Intel and AMD product quality/production capacity continues as at present. I believe that a two fab AMD with a hot K-7 (your speculation, not mine) would disturb the equilibrium to the extent that AMD move out of the price war territory and into market share poaching.
