not true here. earl revolutionized the way CPQ looked at itself financially and replaced project-based financial analysis with EVA analysis because "that's how wall street measures companies". EP watched in wonderment as Earl drove the stock price up when the underlying business was the same as it had always been. But then the buying spree started. You can bet earl was an important force in every decision. Up until last hear he was widely regarded as the second most powerful executive behind EP.
