I'm surprised no one here is commenting on CPQ's warnings and how it will affect the markets this week and going forward. Are there no concerns of a possible signal that we've hit the top and we may be finally looking at a 10 to 15% correction ? DELL is going to try to meet lowered earnings estimates. Who knows what other big PC, PC related and chip companies have to warn us about in the coming week(s) ?

You can, of course, find plenty of commentary on the CPQ and Dell threads. All computer stocks probably will get hammered. In my opinion, CPQ's bad earnings were actually built into the low $30 price tag at the time of the earnings warning, which is why the stock had plunged from the 40's before that. However, the street will hammer CPQ and all other computer makers on Monday--we can bet on it. I don't "think" Intel will have any negative news, or it wouldn't be getting ready to split its stock next week, but probably will get pounded just like its relatives in the industry. The most interesting comments I've seen are speculation about whether more money will flow into or out of internet-related stock such as AOL as a result of all this.

Earnings Plays Newsletter for April 12-16 is on the Website. You will also have the watch list for Monday nice and early on Sunday Afternoon. If I have time I will also put some preliminary plays for the Week of April 19-23 on the calendar. The more forward we look, the more upside we can get in anticipation. Please just access it through the links on the homepage. It will save a lot of problems. Also I placed the link twice so if anyone still can't get java, they will see the link ABOVE the java list.

I have owned CPQ last year and the first part of this year. Finally had the sense to get rid of this dog at 46 earlier this year. I am surprised at all of the uproar about the warnings from CPQ, this stock has been disappointing for quite a while, meanwhile analysts get on CNBC and recommend this stock as one of the great companies and say it is seriously undervalued. CPQ has serious problems that I believe are exclusive to CPQ, if this causes a market downdraft I will view it as a buying opportunity of good stocks that have run up lately. I used to subscribe to the Right Line Split report and they always reminded their subscribers that companies that had warned in the past always seemed doomed to repeat their past mistakes. This is what I see happening with CPQ. Why even consider a stock like CPQ with so many other great stocks from which to choose. JMHO Debra

Twick,

I think there are many that are worried about CPQ and their earnings warnings. However, many analysts have said that after the initial sell orders on Monday morning, the tech sector will sort itself out and money will flow into companies that will most likely beat their #'s. Even Jim Cramer said on his site that the sector he'll buy first is the net, because it's one of few sectors that won't blow up.

Like it or not, the new paradigm is already here. CPQ, Oracle, 3Com, PSFT, NETA, are now has beens until they can show revenue & earnings growth. Old tech is out, new tech is in for now.

I think the online brokers will be very strong next week with AMTD & SCH reporting. A couple of other blue-chip net stocks are due for earnings in the next wk. Overall, I think despite some minor dumps, you will see certain stocks (nets most likely) explode right before earnings.
