Frank,

Thanks again for your in-depth analysis. I agree with everything you said, and I'm convinced that any attempt to "open the pipes" anytime within the next few years will fail.

However, I don't take US Senators as uneducated fools, but very intelligent politicians. I suspect that they have already heard most of what is going to be presented next week from their staff, the lobbyist, and the press. I doubt that any of them really believe that the government could force the cable companies to open up a shared resource to open competition, at least, not any time soon. However, what a great opportunity they will have for a little grandstanding on the side of the consumers, the public good, the anti-monopolistic movement, all the while showing genuine concern for the future of E-commerce, E-speech, E-press, E-gasps!… now I'm getting carried away!

There was a post by one visitor to the thread expressing his belief that the "Fat pipes are FOR THE PEOPLE" (7490). I suppose I wasn't very polite in my response to that post (kinda hit me the wrong way). Short term, we are going to hear a lot of noise, a little pseudo-political commentary, and the press expressing in bold black letters what they couldn't explain in the body of their text.

The more I think about it, the more I'm convinced that it's just noise.

Ted
